Perloo The Bold

I began this book shortly after I moved to Colorado. Naturally, the Rocky Mountains--and skiing--became a part of my life. Not that I skied, but my step-son, Robert did. (The book is dedicated to him.) Anyway, I began to think of a fantasy that would make use of this landscape, and American folk lore--rather than European. Perloo the Bold was the result. Perloo himself is a Montmer, creatures who are a mix of jack rabbit, prairie dog and human. Their enemies, Felbarts, are part coyote, part human. It was great fun--but not easy--to create a whole new world, ways of speaking, and thinking. But more than anything else, it is the world of winter and snow, that influenced this book.
